Editor’s Note: We’re too far into August to turn back now, and that means we’re getting close, but not nearly close enough to finishing our fight against the dragging dog days of this bogus, humid summer. With all of the stress and frustration that continues to pile up with every rainstorm and inability to some sun, it seems only right to assume that the best remedy for that would be, at the very least, to laugh. Lucky for you, we’ve got you covered. With homegrown talent, national headliners, and open mics galore highlighting the calendar, the plethora of powerful comedy throughout the commonwealth continues to show up, night after night. Enter Mic’d Up, our ongoing weekly series that details the best live comedy shows to consider as you head out and about. Below find our rundown for this week, through Sunday (August 13).

How Did This Get Made? at Chevalier Theatre

We’ve been spoiled by a number of record-setting box office smash hits this year, but thousands of shitty attempts at the next big thing have preceded them. That’s where Paul Scheer, Jason Mantzoukas, and June Diane Raphael come in, as they return to the area to deliver a hilariously scathing review of films that are great at being absolutely terrible. They’re hitting up The Wilbur while in town, as well, so there are options, but both shows offer up different films, so that’s up to you to decide.

HOW DID THIS GET MADE? :: Wednesday, August 9 at Chevalier Theatre, 30 Forest St. in Medford, MA :: 7:30 p.m., $55 to $95 :: Advance Tickets

Dan St. Germain at Off Cabot

With a seemingly endless stream of tales at the ready at all times, Dan St. Germain’s storytelling chops are some of the best in the game. In the best ways imaginable, there’s really no telling where the night will go with St. Germain behind the mic, but judging by who and where it’s coming from, that’s already a winning recipe.

DAN ST. GERMAIN :: Friday, August 11 and Saturday, August 12 at Off Cabot, 9 Wallis St. in Beverly, MA :: 7 p.m., $30 :: Advance Tickets

Bill Burr at MassMutual Center

Nearly a year after tackling a history-making feat at Fenway Park, ol’ Billy Birthplace of Basketball is heading to Springfield to bring the heat to another big room. With an hour of material on the docket that is sure to pack that signature punch of Burr’s, it’s not really of “if,” but rather what he’s got on his mind this time around, and how he’s going to decimate it like a strategic champion prize fighter — one vicious jab at a time.

BILL BURR :: Saturday, August 12 at MassMutual Center, 1277 Main St. in Springfield, MA :: 7 p.m., tickets start at $72 :: Advance Tickets

Eddie Pepitone at The White Room

Pepitone returns to Wormtown to once again burrow deep into our minds with his ticking timebomb brand of stand-up, and to guide us through the rose-colored chaos around him that he continues to process in front of us every night. Predict the end of the world all you want, but the bitter Buddha is going to point, laugh, and scream “I told ya so!” while it goes down.

EDDIE PEPITONE :: Sunday, August 13 at The White Room, 138 Green St. in Worcester, MA :: 7:30 p.m., $15 :: Advance Tickets
