The Silver Surfer hangs 10 in the new ‘Fantastic Four’ trailer

Here’s a real bait-and-switch for you: Instead of talking at length about Julia Garner’s Silver Surfer and how she pops up in this new trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps (she looks good, and there’s not much you can really fuck up with the Silver Surfer unless you make him, like, bronze), we’re going to point your attention to the fact that we finally get to see Pedro Pascal’s Mr. Fantastic do his stretchy thing, no Thing Ring required for anybody.

He’s kept a low profile, like A in Paid in Full, and you can clearly see, based on the Baxter Building here, that he attracts heavy cash because the tech game is centrifugal. But he’s Mr. Fantastic, after all, that long dough comes second to the fact that he’s like elastic. He can stretch, and there is no need to guard his life with two Glocks made out of plastic. Anyhow, the trailer’s fun.

Whoops! Wrong video. Here’s the real one.

Here’s a synopsis for The Fantastic Four: The First Steps:

“Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, Marvel Studios’ ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Marvel’s First Family — Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they face their most daunting challenge yet. Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.”

The Fantastic Four: First Steps rockets into theaters on July 25. We also think this will make a whole lot of money.
