Editor’s Note: Welcome to V3 Weekend, Vanyaland‘s guide to help you sort out your weekend entertainment with curated selections and recommendations across our three pillars of MusicComedy, and Film/TV. It’s what you should know about, where you need to be, and where you’ll be going, with us riding shotgun along the way.

Music: Supergrass at House of Blues

There’s a real Britpop buzz flowing through Boston right now, with James, Pulp, and Kula Shaker all rolling through town and enabling us to party like we did in the ’90s (well, kinda). Tonight it’s Supergrass‘ turn to help us relive our wonderful youth, and the Oxford band brings a bevy of hits to Lansdowne Street. From The V List: “Cursed is the artist who as a teen pens a punk-ish romp about getting nabbed by the cops for a lil’ bit of weed, only to be forced to perform that song decades later for adoring audiences. But the only true curse Supergrass bring to town this week for the 30th anniversary of debut album I Should Coco is why Gaz Coombes (revisit our 2016 interview) and the lads weren’t bigger all around the world. Coco has its share of bangers — the aforementioned ‘Caught By The Fuzz’; the plucky ‘Mansize Rooster’; and the blissed-out ‘Alright’, inexplicably given new life recently in the American TV commercial circuit — but the ‘Grass’ later work, especially 1999’s self-titled, stereo-pumpin’ rock and roll powderkeg and 2005’s mature and textured Road to Rouen deserve equal accolades. In any event, this should be one fun, sweaty party on Lansdowne. And it’s been a minute since any of us felt alright.”

SUPERGRASS: I SHOULD COCO | 30TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR :: Friday, September 12 at House of Blues, 15 Lansdowne St. in Boston, MA :: 7 p.m., all ages, $50 to $82 :: Event info :: Advance tickets

Music: Moon Over Salem in downtown Salem

Via the desk of Music Editor Victoria Wasylak: “Last September, Moon Over Salem festival debuted with some stacked stats: Of the downtown Salem festival’s 35-plus performers, 64 percent of artists identified as women or non-binary artists — a welcome but uncommon level of representation among most fest lineups — and ticket sales from the fest’s sole day garnered over $3,000 for the locally-focused Rising Artists Scholarship. Looking ahead to the event’s second edition, those figures are already growing. The 2025 Moon Over Salem festival will maintain its seven-venue footprint [Bit Bar Salem, Charlotte Forten Park, Cinema Salem, Felt Fantastic, Koto Salem, Moon Base One, and Salem Public Access], but will feature 50-plus performers over two days… Much like last year’s lineup, there’s a noticeable portion of performers who call the North Shore home, such as Hyber, Tigerman Woah, Cape Crush, Spirit Hotel, and Oh the Humanity. Boston talent plays a major role, contributing acts like punk stalwarts Rebuilder, lo-fi bedroom pop act Layzi, and dreamy shoegazers Vivid Bloom, among countless others, but New Hampshire’s also on the schedule; look for the drone rock of Chainlacing and country-tinged alternative from Happy Just To See You, for example.”

MOON OVER SALEM :: Friday, September 12 and Saturday, September 13 across multiple venues and stages in Salem, MA :: Various times, $20 to $50 :: Event info :: Advance tickets

Film: ‘Twin Peaks: The Return’ at The Brattle

When The Brattle tells us to “Grab a damn fine cup of coffee and a slice of cherry pie!,” we have no choice but to sit and listen. The Cambridge indie cinema is rolling out an epic week-long screening of Twin Peaks: The Return this weekend and beyond, delivering David Lynch’s 18-part story to the big screen, the way God himself intended, in both two-hour blocks stretched out over several days and a 10-episode marathon run this Saturday. Vanyaland’s Barry Thompson reviewed the damn thing when it first hit Showtime back in 2017, but now we can all experience it in a proper theater. Here is what the Brattle has to say about it: “It is happening again… and for the very first time! Creator David Lynch talked about the third season of Twin Peaks being more like an epic film that should be seen in a cinema than a series of individual episodes viewed at home. We couldn’t agree more, so we are beyond thrilled to host the first ever official Boston-area screenings of the entire 18-hour story. For convenience, we are breaking it up over several days and screening in 2-hour blocks — no need for the endurance test of a marathon this time around.”

‘TWIN PEAKS: THE RETURN’ :: Friday, September 12 to Thursday, September 18 at The Brattle, 40 Brattle St. in Cambridge, MA :: Showtimes vary :: Event info and advance tickets
