Who doesn’t love some Spinal Tap? They’re hard to come by, though Aside from a few cameos on The Simpsons (easy enough to do given that most of the cast already does voice work for that show) and a number of “reunion” shows, it’s been forty-one years since Rob Reiner’s This is Spinal Tap introduced us to the most glaring omission from Penelope Spheeris’ The Decline of Western Civilization II: The Metal Years. Well, if they actually existed, that is. Anyhow, they’re fuckin’ back — the whole gang, even Fran Drescher — in Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, and there’s a trailer ready to go to prove it. It’s been a particularly shitty week for Metal fans, so this is a nice treat to cap it all off. RIP Ozzy.
Peep it:
Here’s a synopsis for Spinal Tap II: The End Continues:
“What comes after 11? We’re about to find out. Forty-one years after the comedy classic ‘This is Spinal Tap,’ ‘Spinal Tap II: The End Continues’ reunites director Rob Reiner with Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer as they reprise their iconic roles as the legendary heavy metal band Spinal Tap in this long-awaited sequel. Featuring Elton John, Paul McCartney, Garth Brooks, Questlove, and more.
SPINAL TAP is back! After a 15-year hiatus, David St. Hubbins, Nigel Tufnel, and Derek Smalls are drawn back together for one last concert. Documentary filmmaker Marty DiBergi returns to explore what the band members have been up to and immortalize the concert reunion. The film blends the same musical mayhem and satire that made the original a cult classic and features some fantastic rock cameos in the process. Will this concert be their triumphant return, or just another Stonehenge-sized catastrophe?”
Spinal Tap II: The End Continues hits theaters stateside on September 12.
