KiNG MALA brings a dark and chaotic energy to a quest for ‘FUN!’

When we served up word of Lights playing Brighton Music Hall this May, we were stoked to see KiNG MALA on board as direct support for the entire North American run. The Los Angeles alt-pop artist will be headlining rooms of similar, or even grander, size very soon, and the spooky proof resides in tracks like “FUN!”, which hit the streams late last month.

Serving up a chaotic energy that hypnotizes through its shadowy seduction, swerving into almost nu-metal territory in how it stalks and haunts, “FUN!” is a sinister twirl of power-tripping, racing through the darkest corners of the mind.

“FUN! asks: Now that you finally have everything you wanted, are you satisfied?” KiNG MALA says. “Is the nightmare of your desire everything you hope for? Is it enough? Will it ever be? Are you happy now? Are you having fun?”

Great question. “FUN!” will be featured on KiNG MALA’s forthcoming debut album And You Who Drowned In The Grief Of A Golden Thing, which is said to be inspired by everything from brutalist architecture to Robert Eggar’s The VVitch to Catholicism to Egyptian death lore to Renaissance art and all sorts of other intriguing shit. It drops in May.
