Mic’d Up: Dicky Stock holds chaotic court with ‘Dick @ Nite’

Editor’s Note: It’s the same thing we all know in love when it comes to Vanyaland’s recurring weekly live comedy rundown, Mic’d Up — just a slightly different face. We’ll be hyping club shows, theater and arena gigs, open mics, and whatever else to help fill your free time with some much-needed laughter.

It’s been entirely too long since we’ve been graced with the comedic genius of Dicky Stock, but as he makes his way out of the shadows (almost like our own friendly neighborhood punk rock Spider-Man), he’s making the night all about us, our bullshit, and airing it out to entertain the masses.

Pulling up to the corner at The Middle East on Wednesday (May 7), the enigmatic local legend returns to the live stage with a new format in Dick @ Nite, where Stock is encouraging patrons to come and “argue with your significant other in front of strangers,” as well as a smattering of other highlights that will fill the show. It’s an opportunity that Larry Nabisco and Kim Strubell (may they rest in eternal peace) would’ve loved participating in, we’re sure of it.

Among the other attractive elements of the show that will surely keep people on the edge of their seat, Stock is also boasting as part of the evening’s lineup of guests, “people who had terrible stuff happen to them, local celebrities, cool dudes, sick ladies, your friend who got shot maybe, and Ed Marley, if someone wants to bring him.”

So what’s about to happen? We have absolutely no idea, and that’s the best part. Stock is the Willy Wonka of Boston comedy. What we do know is it’s sure to be a hell of a night regardless, and Ed Markey is probably going to be kicking himself if he misses out.

DICK @ NITE :: Wednesday, May 7 at Middle East, 472 Massachusetts Ave. in Cambridge, MA :: 8 p.m., 21-plus, free admission :: Event info
