Boston Calling V List: 5 of our favorite sports jerseys on the field

We’ve reached the final boss battle of the weekend at Boston Calling 2025 — the Sunday finale. We’ve gone over the elite and eclectic musical talents unleashed, as well as the tasty culinary offerings all over campus, but we would be remiss as hell if we didn’t dive into at least one more integral element of the appeal of the festival — the astute and wide-ranging fashion trends of show-goers.

While we won’t count the Subaru poncho on this list, we can’t forget the army of Miller Lite cowboy hats, both rugged and regal cowboy boots, and that one guy in a full banana suit. But another fashion statement we’ve enjoyed watching fold into the ocean of people, as it has in years past, is the smattering of sports jerseys that have repped cities and teams with vibrant disregard for any naysayers that might be readying a quick (and totally original) barrage of booing, snarky comments, or even outright disrespect — which is only tolerable for those wearing New York Rangers jerseys, if you wanna be goofy.

Of course, we’ve seen some great choices throughout the weekend, from the all-too-common Julian Edelman and Shohei Ohtani Dodger threads, to Sean Murphy of the Atlanta Braves, former UMass legend and current Colorado Avalanche stud Cale Makar, an Auston Matthews USA sweater straight from the 4 Nations Face-Off, and even a Vladislav Tretiak sweater for those with an eye for the vintage Soviet garb. And perhaps most famously, Public Enemy’s Chuck D and Flavor Flav both rocked Jayson Tatum jerseys on stage to wish the Celtics star a speedy recovery.

A we made the rounds across the festival grounds, we caught a few really fun drips in the wild that deserve a little bit of extra love. Check ’em out.

Roberto Clemente, Pittsburgh Pirates

A wildly underrated player in the grand scope of baseball history, and an equally underrated jersey choice for this weekend — or any weekend, for that matter.

Kevin Garnett, Minnesota Timberwolves

Even before the Big Ticket cemented his legacy in Celtics history, he was an absolute menace in Minnesota. It seems like a nearly forgotten point in time for casual sports fan, but we’re willing to bet this guy knows exactly just how filthy KG was for the Wolves.

Brad Marchand and Xander Bogaerts

Seeing out-of-town teams repped is always exciting, but hometown legends deserve some love too. Respect the classics, remember the good times, and as Oasis once said: “Don’t look back in anger.”

Greg Goldberg, The Mighty Ducks

He may not be a “real” player, but he’s real to us, dammit. And Emilio Estevez. But more importantly, to us. One of the best to defend his position, so you best believe your knuckle-puckin’ skates that we’re giving credit where credit is due to an absolutely legend on the rink.

Pedro Martinez, Montreal Expos

The power of Pedro is unfuckwithable in Boston, but there’s just something about that bright red 45 and the constant longing for the Expos to return that really gets the motor running for Red Sox fans and baseball nerds everywhere. Thank you, Carl Pavano and Tony Armas Jr.
