It’s nice to see ya, Clark D. After years split between Atlanta and the Bay State, the Boston artist and producer has moved back to his birthplace — at least for now. And at his welcome home party, may we suggest spinning his new EP, KURLAND?
The project, which arrived today (October 10), finds Clark D revisiting his roots and his dreams while taking stock of his career. (For the record, that tally looks something like: contributing to three Grammy-nominated albums, winning one Boston Music Award, and launching one indie record label named after the Boston neighborhoods that raised him, Mattapark).
“Back in my city / I came to my folks with a standing ovation,” he raps on big-talkin’ project opener “YOUNG & DANGEROUS.” But it’s EP’s other bookend, “HOME,” that’s the biggest embrace of his turf. “Save a plate for the boy, Clark D’s coming home,” he says, shortly before the song switches from honeyed sentimentality to a frenetic, club-ready conclusion.
“Made these songs all over the crib when I moved back home,” Clark D wrote on Instagram. “Some in the dining room. Some in my old bedroom. Some in the kitchen. Shot the cover in my ma’s backyard. All good music…If you’ve followed my journey, this is for you.”
