Editor’s Note: It’s the same thing we all know in love when it comes to Vanyaland’s recurring weekly live comedy rundown, Mic’d Up — just a slightly different face. We’ll be hyping club shows, theater and arena gigs, open mics, and whatever else to help fill your free time with some much-needed laughter.
The good news is, if you managed to get through all of the insanity that played out in Tom Segura’s new Netflix series, they’re all merely fantasies. The bad (but also, not-so-bad) news? Segura will be live in the flesh in the commonwealth, so you’ll have a front row seat this week to the dark, comedically genius madness that he’s known for.
Still grinding on his stand-up bullshit, Segura is bringing his wildly successful Come Together tour back to Massachusetts this week, with one night at Springfield’s MassMutual Center on Thursday (May 22). Although his stand-up has fueled his stardom over the course of his career, it’s hardly been the focus of his fans, at least for the last few weeks, as the author and podcast host made his scripted series debut earlier this month with the premiere of Bad Thoughts on Netflix. With the new project, as well as the continued success and volume of the Your Mom’s House podcast, it’s a head scratcher where he gets even a little bit of free time, but we’re glad he’s using it to spend it with us on stage.
Segura’s rise through the comedy ranks has been titanic, but now as he opens up a new chapter of his career with his latest project, in addition to the continued success of his stand-up and podcast empire, it kind of feels like we’re only seeing the beginning of how far it can go. Buckle up.
