Eddie Izzard ‘remixes’ in Medford with retrospective return to the stage

For as long as she’s been slaying on stage, Eddie Izzard’s greatest feat has always been what lies ahead. But with her upcoming tour, the British stand-up legend is taking minute to reflect, or rather remix, on the past 35 years.

As announced on Wednesday (June 21), Izzard will be embarking on a 37-date trek of North America dubbed The Remix Tour: The First 35 Years, which will bring her to Medford’s Chevalier Theatre on September 16. With just the latest thematic show in a long line of comedy spectacles that have occupied spaces from clubs and theaters to arenas all over the world, this latest effort from Izzard will harness some of her favorite material from the first three and a half decades of her illustrious career, and present it once again with a fresh re-imagination. In recent years, Izzard has embarked on a few different projects away from the stand-up stage, including her 2017 memoir Believe Me: A Memoir of Love, Death and Jazz Chickens, and the deeply insightful and retrospective 2022 special, Wunderbar.

Something truly fabulous is sticking around the halls of The Chevalier, and we’re here for all of it this fall, as comedian, Queer Eye star, and LGBTQ+ icon Jonathan Van Ness will be making a trip to Medford as part of their Fun & Slutty Tour on September 23. It will mark Van Ness’ second visit to The Chevalier in just a over a year. Over that last year, Van Ness released their third book, Love That Story: Observations from a Gorgeously Queer Life, and also brought the wonder and excitement of their wildly successful podcast Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness to Netflix for a six-episode series under the same name.

As well, Randy Rainbow is getting on the campaign trail, or some form of it at least, as he makes his own way to Medford for one night on October 21, as part of his upcoming Randy Rainbow For President Tour. Over the course of time since his last visit to the area, the political and social satirist has continued his work on stage, while also releasing a handful of his widely-praised song parodies including “The Tango: Vaccine,” “Lock Him Up Yesterday,” and “Welcome to DeSantis,” among a number of others, and also published his first book Playing With Myself in April 2022.

But before we start thinking about the picturesque feelings of a New England autumn, Mo Amer is keeping it hot as he sets up shop just a few short miles away from Medford, with one night at The Wilbur on August 6. Amer has been hella busy since his last trip to The Wilbur in 2020, with stand-up shows all over the world, as well as the release of his latest special, Mohammed In Texas which premiered on Netflix in 2021, before the 2022 premiere of his eponymous hit series Mo on Netflix. The show’s first season was met with critical acclaim, including a Peabody Award and a 100% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes before it was renewed earlier this year for a second season.

And while it may still be a bit of a ways away, Gary Janetti has his sights set on giving a dreary New England February some much needed dopamine, as the best-selling author and Family Guy writer bundles up and heads to The Wilbur on February 8. During his one in town, Janetti will be reading essays from his two books Do You Mind If I Cancel? and Start Without Me, before stirring up a Q&A that is sure to harness the comedic energy he’s brought to writing rooms for some of TV’s most recognizable titles like Will & Grace and the PBS British sitcom Vicious, which he is also credited with creating. Most recently, the Emmy-nominated showrunner has also been at the helm of HBOMax’s The Prince.

Tickets to these shows can be accessed now via pre-sale using the code VANYA, before general on-sale starts on Friday (June 23) at 10 a.m. ET, with the exception of Amer’s show, which goes on sale on Friday at noon ET.
